Antique Steel Brooch Elk in Wilderness c.1800

$ 675.00

In the hush of a shadowed glade, an elk steps forward, muscles coiled, antlers lifting like branches toward the sky; its movement captured in exquisite, sculptural relief. This remarkable brooch is a testament to craftsmanship, its steel tableau so finely detailed you can nearly feel the chill of the air and the snap of twigs underfoot. It’s the kind of piece that seems to carry the memory of a quiet forest, a watchful eye, and a story long since folded into the trees.

The scene is framed in engraved silver with a finely chased border and the reverse is backed with a luminous panel of mother-of-pearl. It bears three French hallmarks on the pin clasp: a boar’s head for silver, a diamond-shaped maker’s mark, and a third square mark. Measuring 57 mm by 49.7 mm and 5 mm thick, it weighs a substantial 18.9 grams and wears beautifully as a statement brooch.

Whether worn on wool or linen, this brooch is a window into the romance of the wild, rendered not in oil or ink, but in metal, light, and time.
