There is a certain drama to Victorian diamond rings like this one, an elegance that feels both refined and quietly extravagant. Across the finger stretches a graceful sweep of antique diamonds, their facets alive with the soft, flickering light of early cuts. At the center, a luminous diamond glows with warmth and depth, surrounded by a constellation of smaller stones that gather and amplify its fire. Rings of this elegant boat, or navette, form were among the most striking jewels of the late Victorian era, designed to spread a glittering field of diamonds across the finger. It is easy to imagine this piece catching the glow of gas lamps and candlelit drawing rooms, worn for evenings filled with conversation, music, and the subtle rituals of Victorian society.
Handcrafted around 1890, this antique Victorian diamond boat ring is made in 18 karat gold with a traditional silver-topped setting, a technique widely used during the period to enhance the brilliance of diamonds. The ring is set with fifteen antique cut diamonds totaling approximately 1.6 carats. The central diamond measures about 5 x 5 x 4.2 millimeters and weighs approximately .66 carats. It is flanked by two diamonds measuring about 3 x 3 x 1.9 mm, together totaling approximately .22 carats, and surrounded by twelve additional diamonds measuring about 2.5 x 2.5 x 1.5 mm, totaling approximately .72 carats. The ring measures approximately 6.6 mm north to south across the face and 22 mm across the top of the navette-shaped setting, standing about 4.6 mm off the finger. The band measures about 2.3 mm wide and the ring weighs 6.19 grams. It is currently a US size 7.25. There are no visible marks.
Victorian diamond boat rings, also known as navette diamond rings, remain among the most beloved antique engagement ring styles. With its generous spread of sparkling antique diamonds and elegant elongated silhouette, this ring carries the quiet confidence of a jewel that has already lived a century of beautiful moments and seems ready for many more.
