There is something irresistible about an antique compass, before GPS, this was a tiny promise that wherever you wandered, you could still find your way home. This one is particularly charming, framed in wonderfully exuberant Victorian engraving with sharp geometric corners, curling scrollwork and little flourishes that make the whole thing look rather like a miniature wall clock. And, of course, there is an actual working compass at its heart.

Made in Birmingham, England in 1896, this Victorian compass pendant is crafted in sterling silver and retains its original small compass with gilt dial. It measures 38.5 millimeters from top to bottom, including the bale, 25.5 millimeters across and 5.7 millimeters deep, and weighs 6.5 grams. It is hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling silver, Birmingham anchor, date letter "W" for 1896, and maker’s mark "NCR CO." The chain shown is not included.
