I love natural motifs in jewelry. Flowers, bugs and bees, snakes and birds and beautiful ladies, animals and even the occasional full landscape has been known to be represented in jewelry over the ages.
This beautiful moth makes a wonderful pendant in this Edwardian era necklace. The bug is set with 5 lilac colored oval faceted amethyst gems and 39 small pearls. The arms and legs have wonderful engraved detailing. The necklace is further set with another oval amethyst at the top and they dangle from a chain that is 17.25 inches around. The pendant measures 55 mm north to south and 41.2 mm across. The amethyst at the top is 9.4x7.4.1 mm and the smallest wing stones are 5.6 mm round stones.
Made in England in about 1910, this necklace is unmarked but tests as sterling silver. It weighs 8.7 grams.
