Edwardian Moonstone Diamond Platinum Ring Dome

I love Saturday’s in France. We take a train out of Paris to the wonderful city of Reims, the capital of the Champagne region in France. At a quaint house almost in the country we visit with a dealer who we’ve been buying from long enough that she’s now a good friend. She and her daughter make us wonderful meals and serve us the best wine and bubbly and we spend the day with them, laughing and catching up and, of course, looking at fabulous jewels. This ring reminds me a bit of the yummy champagne we drink, the array of rose cut diamonds sparkling like the bubbles in my glass.

This Art Deco era French ring is set with 56 rose cut diamonds and one fabulous high dome of moonstone. This ring is beautifully hand crafted in platinum, with each stone set into a mill grain edged diamond that gives it the feel of leaves or feathers. The diamonds are two sizes, 44 of them are 2-3 mm across and 12 are about 1.5 mm across and they add up to a carat weight of about .4 carats. The fabulous blue moonstone is cabochon cut and measures 6.1x6.1x4.3 mm and weighs approximately 1.15 carats. There is beautiful engraving around the edges of the ring, which measures 17.6 mm north to south and 20.5 mm across and narrows to 2 mm at the back of the band, it sits 9 mm off the finger. This ring is a size 7 US and could be resized to suit, it shows some signs of having been sized up in the past. It is marked on the outside of the band with what appears to be a French hallmark of some sort, although it is too rubbed to identify, we have acid tested it to verify it’s platinum content. Weighs 5.6 grams. Made around 1915-1925.
