Late 19th Century Austro-Hungarian Turquoise Ring Silver

$ 350.00

It is said that Cleopatra changed the face of the world with her beauty. The last pharaoh of Egypt, she aligned herself with Mark Antony after the murder of Julius Caesar and with her own death began the Roman era. She ground turquoise gems to wear the powder as eyeshadow. So the real question would be, was she born with it or was it the Turquoise??

A most beguiling blue, I can imagine it would be quite lovely ground, but in this case, I like it just as it is. Set into 800 silver, this Austro-Hungarian ring dates to about 1890. Typical of the style, it is quite elaborately hand crafted and set with 9 bright blue, probably Persian, turquoise gems. The stones show very little matrix, a few have the green that some turquoise turns from age and wear. The 8 round stones measure 2.5 mm across and the larger center stone measures 6x4 mm, this ring is unmarked and tests as between 800-830 silver. The face of this ring measures 18 mm from north to south and 17.5 mm across, it sits 7 mm off the finger and narrows to 3 mm wide at the back of the band. This size 6.5 ring weighs 4.8 grams.
