Victorian Cameo Brooch Pin 15k Gold Pearl Diamond Frame

She packed the last pair of gloves into her chest and closed the lid, flipped the clasps and turned the key in the lock. She had room to add some things, she already knew what she was going to bring back from her Grand Tour: Linens from France for her brothers, Lace from Belgium for her mother and for her father a Cuckoo Clock from the Swiss Alps. For herself she was hoping to find an exquisite cameo in Italy, she wanted one with angles or cherubs, or both, and knew the exact jeweler she’d take it to when she got back. In her mind she could picture the diamond and pearl frame she’d commission for it. She could hardly believe it was time, she was off on her Adventure!

This wonderful brooch was made in Victorian England in about 1880. Most likely it was brought back from Italy and set in England, it is set in glowing yellow 15 karat gold. The cameo depicts Angelic lovers entwined in ribbons and clouds. The frame of this wonderful piece is set with .5 carats in total of old European Cut diamonds, 11 in all, along the top of the brooch, and counterbalanced by 12 creamy white pearls on posts, each about 2.2 mm in diameter. Overall, this brooch measures 56.2 mm from top to bottom and 43.5 mm across, it weighs 14 grams. The cameo is signed ‘AA’ and the inside shell measures 45.4x32.5 mm. This unmarked frame tests as 15 karat gold.
