People are often curious about how I find my jewels; sometimes I go to markets, some are huge outdoor affairs set in horse show fields where I have to practically run to see all the dealers that I want to see, some are small, intimate indoor affairs where I can meander with my coffee and still be done by noon. Other times I go to dealers homes or flats or offices and see them privately, sitting at a desk or a kitchen table and pawing through their latest finds; and yet other times I have people who I’ve known, and bought from for years, come by my flat and bring along their offerings. It was there, in a flat above a shop near Portobello Road, that I was shown this amazing Art Nouveau necklace. I didn’t hesitate to buy it (even though it cost me a pretty penny), rather I just put it around my neck and there it stayed until I got home from Europe and had to send it off for appraisal.
This absolutely fantastic Art Nouveau pendant necklace features a rectangular cushion cut of untreated Ceylon sapphire which measures 11 x 9.6 x 6.37 mm and weighs approximately 5.92 carats, it has a rich cornflower blue color which appears different in different lights. The pendant is further set with a total of 2.3 carats of cabochon cut natural blue moonstones, six of them in all. The necklace is hand crafted of buttery yellow 15 karat gold and hangs on a 17 inch long 15 karat rope chain. The pendant itself measures 54 mm from top to bottom and 28.6 mm across. It is a truly stunning piece with wonderfully curving Art Nouveau lines. Made in England in about 1900, this beauty is marked with ’15ct’ to the reverse and it weighs 14.8 grams.
I’ve had this piece professionally appraised and the full insurance replacement value is $15,285.00, please don’t hesitate to ask if you’d like to see the fully appraisal.

This perfect Edwardian diamond and sapphire five stone ring is just right for any occasion, including the most special of them! Both something old and something blue, the beauty and fire of old European cut diamonds is accented by the rich blue desert sky hue of the sapphires. Set in a band of gold that has been hand carved with swoops and swirls. Surely a ring that you will never want to take off no matter what occasion lands it on your finger!
Most likely English, this ring was made around 1915 and boast a beautifully carved shank. The stones are set in 18 karat gold (tested) and it has no marks. It is in wonderful condition, is currently a size 7 but could be re-sized a bit. It weighs 4.9 grams. The center diamond is very clean and white with a small open culet, it measures 3.8x3.8x2.6 mm and weighs about .28 carats, together with the side diamonds the total diamond weight is about .4 carats. The sapphires measure 3.6x3.6x2.5 mm and weigh approximately .25 carats each, or half a carat in total, they are bright and lively, a cobalt blue that is not dark and stays bright on the finger. Overall this ring measures 6.2 mm north to south, 11.5 mm across and sits 4 mm off the finger, it narrows to 2.5 mm at the back of the band.
This is a truly lovely ring, the stones are substantial and beautifully cut. It would make a very special engagement ring or wonderful right hand ring for any occasion and would stack nicely with others.
When I go to Europe, I always go shopping in London. Sometimes I also go to Paris, other times to Amsterdam, and once in a happy while, I visit the diamond capital of the world, where jewelry shops lines the streets and chocolate stores cap the corners, Antwerp.
I bought this fantastic ring in Antwerp, up the winding stairs of my friends Atelier, up to the top floor where sunlight streams in through skylights making diamonds sparkle and sapphires shimmer. This ring is French in origin, hand crafted in 18 karat gold and set with a single soft blue oval faceted sapphire. The stone measures 7.6 x 6.7 x 3.4 mm and weighs approximately 1.4 carats, it has some slight feather inclusions that are only visible with enhanced magnification. The ring is marked on the back of the shank with the French eagles head and a makers mark. It measures 10 mm north to south and has a low profile, sitting 4.1 mm off the finger, it narrows to 3.5 mm at the back of the band. This ring is a size 7.75 US and could be re-sized to suit, with care being taken to preserve the marks. It weighs 9.9 grams, a weighty and wonderfully comfortable ring. This ring would be equally suitable for a man or a woman.
This Retro ring was made around 1945-50 and would make a fantastic and unique wedding band or engagement ring.
