Victorian Sapphire Diamond Cluster Ring

Sapphires have been attributed to royalty since the beginning of written history. The color and rarity of the stone signified power and wealth. During the Middle Ages, sapphires were thought to be a divine stone, and shield the wearer from harm and disease. One of Queen Victoria’s most prized possessions was a diamond and sapphire brooch that her dear Prince Albert had gifted to her prior to their engagement. This influenced jewelry and fashion design during the Victorian Era, as most things the Queen did, did.

This antique Victorian sapphire and diamond cluster ring was handcrafted around 1890, in England. The star of this show is a rectangular cushion cut sapphire which measures 6 x 5.2 x 4.3 mm and weighs 1.18 carats. Surrounding the sapphire are 12 old European cut diamonds, including one on each shoulder. Each diamond is approximately 2.4 x 2 x 1.7 mm, for a total of .9 carats. The face of this ring measures 11 x 17.2 x 4.7 mm and the bandwidth is 1.2 mm. This ring is a size 7.25 and weighs 2.6 grams. It has been acid tested.

For a wonderful engagement ring or a classic high style accessory, this antique ring will sparkle like the sun, even in dim candlelight!
