Victorian Silver Hammered Sovereign Case Pendant

$ 420.00

Do you have a special coin that brings you luck? Are you a collector of Victorian Silver? Or maybe you’re looking for something special to wear on a favorite chain!

This Victorian Silver Hammered Sovereign Case, made in Birmingham, England, in 1903, is a fabulous illustration of Victorian history and fashion. This locket would have been worn from a watch fob or chatelaine and used to hold coins, or sovereigns, by way of a sprung sovereign platform inside. Both the front and back covers are hand hammered, giving a light-catching texture. The underside of the lid is stamped with a full set of hallmarks: an anchor, a lion, the date 1903, another date of 1904, and maker’s mark “ALD.” The two different dates are a mystery. This handsome silver case is 50 mm high, including the bale, and 34.4 mm wide. It’s depth is 19.8 mm and weight is 31.4 grams.

This silver Victorian case would make a beautiful pendant around your neck or hanging from your watch chain. A great gift!
