He closes his book of classical tales and holds his hand toward the fire. In the flickering light, the carved face on his ring emerges from the golden brown stone, its curling hair casting tiny shadows. He turns it slowly, enjoying the way the light gives the ancient features a new expression.
Crafted around 1870, this Victorian ring features an oval tiger’s eye cameo carved with a face looking directly outward, framed by flowing curls and finely incised details. The stone’s warm honey and brown tones lend depth to the carving, while a smooth gold bezel and broad, tapering shoulders give the ring a handsome simplicity. The cameo measures 16 x 12 millimeters and rests in a closed back setting. The face of the ring measures 17.5 millimeters north to south and 13 millimeters across, rising 7.3 millimeters off the finger, with a band width of 3.7 millimeters at the back. It weighs 5.08 grams, is a US size 8, and bears no marks; the gold has been tested as 9 karat.
