It’s especially true with certain things, a long gold chain that feels like pure luxury on a platter, or a ring like this one, made with such exquisite quality that you can just feel the artist radiating out of it. This piece is the epitome of wearable art.
Set with an oval cabochon of moonstone and a diamond, this stunning jewel is both a ring and a pendant, a highly unusual combination. To my eye it’s a stylized rooster, but I could be wrong. The gold is solid, and heavy and has that sublime heavy velvety feel of old 18 karat gold. This piece is likely by someone quite famous, but I’ve not had any luck tracking it down, if you know, please feel free to enlighten me, I’d love to know. The ring is a size 7.75 and cannot be resized, as a pendant it’s 37.5 mm north to south and 21.2 mm across. The moonstone has wonderful adularescence and measures 10.8x8.3x6.6 and weighs about 4.25 carats. The little diamond is a round brilliant cut. I don’t know the actual age of this piece, but my best guess is the 1930s, it has that feel, it also has French hallmarks and makers mark which indicate the 18 karat gold content. This extraordinary piece weighs 21.8 grams.
